The heat lamp is on in the brooding house
She gets up at dawn quiet as a mouse
And slips out to check and make sure that the chicks are ok.

She loves to be alone in the chilly morn
Collect the eggs while they’re still warm

She goes to the barn for the smell of hay
And strokes the back her old bay
And says “I’ll be back in a minute with a bucket of grain”.

She breaks the ice off the water trough
And thanks her lucky stars
That she got off the roller coaster ride of city life

Her hands in the soil and dirt on her knees

Before she’d be flying back to her country home.

She lives in a cabin with a dog and cat
She walks the beans wearing only a hat
And doesn’t mind who drives by as long as they wave

She’s as happy as a pig in slop
If she wants hot water well there’s wood to chop.
